“Summer’s Morning” is a collection of eight original and two traditional songs that explore experiences of love through the lens of trauma and the process of recovery. Tied together by this wider theme, the songs reflect on mental illness, environmentalism, existentialism, isolation, and connection. The arrangements range from sparse and sombre (“January-December”; “Come All Ye Fair and Tender Maidens) to energetic and uplifting ("Bedtime Story”; “Summer’s Morning”), all the while driven by Feaver’s poignant lyricism and deftly fingerpicked guitar. “Summer’s Morning” shines a light on the intricate balance between bleakness and hope.

I wrote these songs about coming out of a turbulent childhood and adolescence into adulthood. Creating this EP helped me to understand my own experiences and to write myself back together again. Each song holds its own special significance to me – for example, I wrote “Yours Truly” at Christmas back home in 2018 after accidentally coming across a letter that my late father had written years ago to my estranged half-sister about their relationship; and “Experiment” after a particularly rousing undergraduate lecture on Beowulf and Freud. “Deep Sea Diving” and “Cheap Thrills” have similar stories behind them, while “Swan Serenade” and “Play It Back” came out of me unexpectedly, like feelings turned to words. However, as often happens with songs and stories, the meaning behind each track changed and evolved through the process of writing, revising, sharing, recording, and sharing anew. Whatever these songs meant and mean to me, I hope they find you well and perhaps come to mean some things to you as well.
